68 - Brave New World

The title of today's comic comes from Shakespeare's "The Tempest," but it was most famously appropriated by Aldous Huxley for the title of his 1931 dystopian novel about the dehumanizing effects of technology. Six years later, in his essay collection "Ends and Means," Huxley wrote: "Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards."

All of which is to say that I'm not sure whether to be impressed or depressed that my son was using PowerPoint at age 7, but I'm pretty sure I know what Aldous Huxley would have thought.
